Monroe Community College's advanced studies program comes with unique opportunities and personalized attention
The advanced studies certificate program offers extraordinary students the opportunity for challenging learning experiences. With acceptance into the advanced studies program, you’ll gain admission into Monroe Community College's Honors Institute, and you’ll enjoy specially designed learning experiences inside and outside the classroom.
The advanced studies program and Honors Institute provide you with special opportunities to encounter people, places, events and ideas. You can develop a personal mentor relationship with an Honors Institute faculty member, and you’ll gain benefits that are only available to Honors Institute students. These include:
- Small-sized honors courses that you’ll attend with MCC's most academically talented and highly motivated students
- Superior faculty members who have won awards for teaching
- Advanced curriculum that challenges and rewards high-performing students
- Collaborative learning and fulfilling volunteer work
- Off-campus events such as film festivals, field trips, and cultural tours integrated with course work
- An active club for students who are enrolled in the Honors Institute and the advanced studies program
The advanced studies certificate emphasizes interaction between students and between students and faculty. You’ll enjoy a level of attention that only the highest-quality liberal arts colleges provide to their undergraduates.
The advanced studies certificate is not a stand-alone credential. You’ll earn it alongside your associate degree in whatever major you choose. In addition, you’ll receive a SUNY-registered Certificate in Honors Studies.
Graduation with the advanced studies certificate requires full engagement with Honors Institute activities and a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above. The advanced studies certificate program is not financial aid eligible.

Advanced Studies Certificate Program
The Advanced Studies Certificate Program offers extraordinary students the opportunity for advanced learning experiences, which involve first-hand encounters with people, places, events and ideas. Acceptance into the program denotes admission into the College's Honors Institute. Through Institute membership, students will enjoy unique learning experiences within and beyond the classroom.
Through exceptional course-based exploration, unique curricular and co-curricular experiential learning activities, collaborative learning community opportunities, and fulfilling volunteer work, Institute students will encounter learning worthy of their extraordinary capacity for growth. Graduation with the Advanced Studies Certificate requires a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above. The Advanced Studies certificate program is not financial aid eligible.
Advanced Studies with Thesis Certificate
The Advanced Studies with Thesis certificate track offers extraordinary students opportunities to engage in advanced scholarly writing and presentation. Students are required to participate in seminars that explore academic work in depth and prepare them to do original research. The Thesis Track requires public presentation of their research.

The required minimum high school average is 87%, the class rank of top 10-15% and 550 Math or Verbal SAT.
